Mastodan: New Album, The Hunter

Fans have eagerly been awaiting news of the new Mastodon album. Finally, more information is available.

The progressive metal band will be releasing their next full-length studio album later this year. Mastodon officially released the name of the upcoming release: The Hunter. The disc will feature "Curl of the Burl", "Dry Bone Valley", "The Octopus Has No Friends", "All the Heavy Lifting", "The Sparrow", "The Ruiner", and "Stargasm". A full track listing  is expected soon, and The Hunter's is tentatively set for sometime in October.

The band confirmed fifteen or sixteen tracks and guitarist Brent Hinds has said, "It sounds pretty different than anything we've ever done before!" Fans looking for long, epic tracks will be disappointed; instead, they should look forward to short bursts of energy.

Although the band has stated the album is a "funnier" one on several occasions, drummer Brann Dailor elaborated, "When you listen to the songs, they don't sound as 'fun' as we perceive them to be, I guess; it's still pretty extremely heavy matierial."

The album was influenced by Hinds's brother's death, due to a hunting incident.

Mastodon will be touring in Europe throughout the summer, while hitting 2011's Sonisphere, Rock Im Park, Rock Am Ring, and Roskilde festivals. They will also be playing a one-off gig in Seattle with Soundgarden, Queens of the Stone Age, and the Meat Puppets on July 30.

The band hopes to bust out some new tracks for the Seattle show, but as for the summer tour in Europe, Hinds says that at the moment, they don't know of any new material that will be playing.

While fans are waiting for the album and the tours, however, they download an unreleased track, "Deathbound" from adultswim.com starting June 28.
